Paul Lagarde

Paul de Lagarde (1827-1891) was a master of Arabic, Aramaic, Armenian, Coptic, Persian, Syriac and other Eastern languages, and thus was enabled to do work in comparative linguistics that was rare in the nineteenth century. Lagarde's literary activities were immense, amongst his 297 publications were Horae Aramaicae, Epistolae Novi Testamenti Coptice, and his text of the Septuagint.
