About-

The very word "priest" is a word of controversy and contention in the Church. In this collection of essays, sermons, and meditations, an ordained priest in the Anglican tradition defends the use of the term and argues that the renewal of the priesthood of the people requires an appropriate appreciation of the power and dignity of holy orders. This book, which comes out of thirty years of pastoral ministry, is an encouragement to the ordained to persevere in love and thus fulfill the calling to keep alive at the heart of the church the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ, the great high priest.

Endorsements & Reviews-

"Books on ministry often end up as ordination gifts that are never read. Harding's book will be read over and over and, I hope, never put away on a shelf. Drawing on--and lucidly explaining--classic Anglican understandings of ministry like Moberly's and Ramsey's, Harding's morally sensitive, Scripturally concrete, and theologically rich reflections on the christologically representative character of ordained service are essential guides to the church's ongoing life and renewal. He compellingly outlines the glorious and costly love of the Christian church's life that finds its personal sign in the priest's vulnerable dependence upon Christ's ministry of sacrifice. Evangelical and Catholic Christians alike will find their personal and common ministries built up by this vision."

--Ephraim Radner, Professor of Historical Theology, Wycliffe College

"With so much of our conversation today focused on ministry as middle-management, therapy, or entertainment, this book centers our understanding of the priesthood in the priestly ministry of Christ and . . . in the centrality of Christ's self-offering. Harding ably and deftly connects the theological grounding of the priesthood with practical and effective suggestions for training and raising up new leaders who are equipped to effectively and genuinely share the gospel . . . in a culture desperately in need of its saving promise."
--Rev. Robert Hendrickson, Cofounder of the Society of Catholic Priests in North America

"This collection of essays and meditations on the priestly ministry of God's people brims with pastoral warmth, scholarly brilliance, and soul-nourishing wisdom. Harding is one of only a few authors who could address this subject in such a deft and generous manner."
--Ian Morgan Cron, bestselling author of Jesus, My Father, the CIA, and Me: A Memoir . . . of Sorts and Chasing Francis: A Pilgrim's Tale
