James Kallas, a Navy vet at age fourteen, went on to St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where he was Phi Beta Kappa and Honor Athlete. After a brief stay with George Halas and the Chicago Bears, his first teaching post was professor of theology at California Lutheran College (now University). Later, he was president of Dana College, Blair, NE. For his work there, Queen Margarethe of Denmark knighted him. A writer of solid content and sparkling style, he also studied at Durham University in England, the Sorbonne in Paris, and the Goethe Institute in Germany.
