Arthur E. Zannoni is an award-winning freelance writer, scripture scholar, teacher, theologian, workshop leader and consultant in the areas of biblical studies and Christian-Jewish relations. He taught on the faculty of the School of Divinity of the University of St. Thomas from 1984-91 and in the Murray Institute of the same University from 1991-94. In 1985, he helped establish the Center for Jewish Christian Learning at the University of St. Thomas, where he was the Associate Director from 1988 to 1991 and served on its advisory board. Today, the Center is known as the Jay Phillips Center for Jewish Christian Learning, a joint endeavor of the Universities of St. Thomas and St. John's in Collegeville, MN. He earned his Master's degree in Theology form the University of San Francisco, and did his doctoral studies at Marquette University specializing in Biblical Studies. Zannoni has published articles in Bible Today, St Anthony Messenger Magazine, The Catechist, Catholic Update, Scripture From Scratch, and God's Word Today. From 2002 to 2005, he wrote a monthly column for the Catholic Spirit, the newspaper of the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis. He is a two-time recipient of awards for excellence in writing from the Catholic Press Association. He is editor of Jews and Christians Speak of Jesus, and coeditor of the bestseller Introduction to Jewish Christian Relations. Zannoni's book Tell Me Your Name: Images of God in the Bible has been described as "a real page turner with powerful prose and poetic images." The sequel, Tell Me Your Story: The Parables of Jesus, has received good reviews. The first book he wrote, Jesus of the Gospels, has been translated into both Russian and Indonesian. Zannoni is an engaging speaker and a master teacher who combines the best of scholarship with humor and clear explanation. He has two married adult children, a sixteen-year-old son, and four grandchildren. He, his son, and his wife Kathleen live in Twin Cities, MN.
"This book makes available to the adult Christian a great deal of biblical research in a readable and popular format. It respects Jesus's Jewish heritage, locating him clearly in the complex and vibrant context of first-century Jerusalem. At the same time, it graphically presents the differing portraits of Jesus as they appear in the four Gospels, paying special attention to the accounts of his death and resurrection. Those who take up this book and read it will not only grow in their understanding of the biblical texts but will also find a rich source for spiritual reflection."
--Most Rev. Anthony M. Pilla, Bishop Emeritus of Cleveland
"[This book] invites the reader into the world of Jesus and the disciples, encouraging him or her to experience with them the life of first-century Palestine. The opening chapters are especially significant in their presentation of the contextual foundation of Jesus the Jew, revealing his own formation and growth as a devout Jew in a period of turmoil for the Jewish people. I would find the book especially useful as an introductory text for introductory religion and Christology courses at the college level and for adult education programs. It provides new insights into Jesus and his ministry which are especially meaningful for today."
--Diana L. Hayes, Professor of Systematic Theology, Georgetown University
"Finally, a book about Jesus that is both 'user friendly' and deeply insightful. This is a classy and deeply spiritual look at the Jesus of our faith, a Jesus we can approach without fear, and yet a Jesus who still awakens us and keeps us filled with awe and wonder. What Art Zannoni has done for believers is both an accomplishment and a gift for all who seek to follow the Lord more deeply. All who want to deepen their conversion journey will do themselves a favor by reading and delving into the message of these pages."
--David Haas, Director of the Emmaus Center for Music, Prayer, and Ministry, St. Paul, Minnesota
