Christian Women Reflect on Post-College Life
Edited by Linda Beail and Sylvia Cortez Masyuk
Series: Point Loma Press
Imprint: Wipf and Stock
Results May Vary addresses the unspoken assumptions and unquestioned expectations about what it means to be a Christian woman in a complex world. Far from offering a simple checklist or selling advice, this collection of essays weaves together a rich variety of voices--from women of different ages, backgrounds, professions, disciplines, and life choices--speaking honestly about the unexpected yet grace-infused twists and turns of life that exude the faithfulness of God in every unanticipated detail. For young women in their twenties and thirties tackling post-college life, Results May Vary offers the wry and diverse stories of real women grappling with real-world issues like friendship, health, money, ambition, vocation, marriage, motherhood, sexuality, and spiritual life.
Linda Beail is Professor of Political Science and Director of the Margaret Stevenson Center for Women's Studies at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. She is the author of Framing Sarah Palin: Pit Bulls, Puritans and Politics (Routledge, 2012).
Sylvia Cortez Masyuk worked as Director of Discipleship Ministries at Point Loma Nazarene University for eleven years where she collaborated with faculty and staff to develop creative programs for students in the area of Christian formation.
"Results May Vary is an insightful compilation of essays demonstrating the wonderfully diverse and challenging pathways available to women if they are open to exploring and taking risks. A must-read for young female graduates of Christian higher education, as well as for those who mentor them."
--Kris Hansen-Kieffer, Vice Provost and Dean of Students, Messiah College
"Results May Vary is a well-edited volume of essays that describes important life events--being single, married, or divorced; employment; child rearing; professional ambition; friendship; faith and living a life of discipleship--by giving us real stories of real believers in Jesus Christ who authentically share wisdom and pain, joy and disappointment, hope and resilience. A main point in the book is . . . the value of community. Doing life with others is life that is rich, textured, and holistic. I couldn't put the book down--an easy read with valuable truths."
--Shirley Hoogstra, Vice President of Student Life, Calvin College
