Bailey Carpenter is a fantasy geek whose life is about to
become wilder than his imagination. He has a strong feeling that he has a friend no one else remembers, and he can't shake it off. Bailey's search takes him to a familiar place on a weirdly different time line. Finding the friend turns out to be the easy part, but now he's haunted by the memory of a brother and another life. He and his friend enjoy living rough in the Australian bush, but it's not all it seems. Torn between worlds, Bailey faces opposition from his friend and the real possibility that he cannot return home.
Claire Belberg lives with treetop views and the myriad birds that enjoy the Adelaide Hills. Nature, including human nature, is an absorbing interest reflected in her stories and poems. Claire is also the author of The Golden Hour (Stone Table Books, 2017). You can read her blog, The Character Forge, at clairebelberg.wordpress.com
“Evernow is brilliantly crafted, precise without a wasted word, and quite astonishing…I found it so riveting I forgot an appointment!… characters and setting so well-drawn that I can still see them. Extraordinary novels like Evernow that challenge genre are rare. This is a great and innovative achievement by Belberg.”
—Rosanne Hawke, author of The Messenger Bird and the forthcoming
YA novel, Flying Blind
“Evernow is a beautifully cohesive story that coils and curls around itself…the everyday hangs strangely beside the kind of realities we all fear to address. The deeper truths of growing up, of what we believe and why. The characters are… living real lives with real concerns, a neat trick for a story that slips in and out of the fantastic. Evernow has stuck with me, like an unsettling dream.”
—Pete Court, Lecturer in Creative Writing at Tabor Adelaide and author of Sub Urban Tales
