Management by the Book
Business Management Lessons from Jesus
by Robert Case
Imprint: Wipf and Stock
In Management by the Book, Robert Case masterfully weaves Old and New Testament management examples and principles, commentary from scholars, insight from theologians, practices from contemporary business owners, and observations from Case himself to present a picture of management utterly unique in business literature.
Robert Case comes from a multi-generational family of business owners. In addition to owning and operating a for-profit company, Case also taught business and philosophy at Central Washington University. Case has earned degrees from the University of Washington, London School of Journalism, Central Washington University, Covenant Theological Seminary, and Fuller Theological Seminary. He has written two books: Esther and Trump: A New Political Commentary and David Hume: A Skeptic for Conservative Evangelicals.
“In this extraordinary new book, Bob Case constructs an entire framework for business management from biblical passages. This is the most thoroughly biblical book on management I have read. It is deep, it is sound, it is weighty. It is worthwhile.”
—Kevin Martin, CEO, World News Group
“Because it is packed full of biblical wisdom, Management by the Book is the perfect tool for Christian business owners. In his book, you can hear Bob’s hard-earned experience and wisdom as he offers tailored insights to the Christian reader. This book will be on my desk as a continual reference guide for Christian business management. This thoughtful read both encouraged and challenged me in my business practices.”
—Laureen Skrivan, President, Wren & Willow General Contractor
“Case’s book reminds me of a fine meal of rich foods. You can only enjoy such a meal if you savor each bite and not rush through the meal. This book has tremendous value, not only to business managers but to anyone in a management position. This book should be used as a Bible study, university-level course study, or sermon series. I consider this a must-read.”
—Bradley Fitterer, Owner, Fitterer Furniture
“Case has written a fascinating book on business filled with ideas from the Bible. It empowers the Bible in the real world and sets the standard for realism and relevancy. Don’t believe me? Bob’s book will fill you with the powers of God’s thinking in ways that have never been done before.”
—J. Stanley Oakes, former President, The King’s College
“Management by the Book is a unique biblical approach to business and people management. Bob uses the prophets, judges, apostles, and Jesus’ own management examples and applies them to our own situation. A great read for any serious-minded Christian manager striving to be salt and light in this dark world. I wish I had read a book like this thirty-five years ago.”
