Everyone knows the story about how God created the world in six days. But often we have failed to recognize its significance. We think the creation story is merely background material for what comes later in Scripture. But God's work of creation is more than a mere record of how God fabricated the physical universe. Instead, it's a pattern for God's overarching work in all things, namely, that God is taking that which is dead and turning it into life. Life out of Death guides you through a thirty-day journey of Genesis 1, where authors Thomas Keiser and Phillip Hall demonstrate how the Genesis 1 creation account applies to everyday life.
Thomas A. Keiser is associate professor of biblical studies and Christian ministry at Regent University. He has a PhD in Old Testament from Dallas Theological Seminary. Keiser loves studying Scripture from the original languages and teaching students to better understand Scripture and its call upon their lives.
Phillip Hall has an MDiv from Virginia Beach Theological Seminary and has won several awards for fiction and creative nonfiction. Hall loves taking deep theological truths and applying them to real life. He is a lay leader at Mission Church in Norfolk, Virginia.
“Thomas Keiser and Phillip Hall invite us to view Genesis 1 as a narrative depicting a God who specializes in creating life out of death. Their original translation work, informed exegesis, attentiveness to biblical-theological connections, and spiritual insight will illuminate readers’ understanding not only of the Creation Story, but of the whole drama of Christian Scripture. At a time when many people talk about the importance of theological interpretation, this devotional embodies the practice.”
—Wesley Thomas Davey, assistant professor of religious studies, Forman Christian College
“Thomas Keiser and Phillip Hall take us on a patient, illuminating journey through a text that many are used to bustling through. Skillfully weaving keen scholarly insights with warm pastoral encouragement, this book engages the mind and heart in ways that deepen our awe of God and his redemptive mission in all of creation.”
—Daniel Amotsuka, community life pastor, Mission Church
