Essays in Philosophical Theology
Imprint: Wipf and Stock
A graduate of Centenary College, William P. Alston received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago, and has taught at the University of Michigan, Rutgers University, and the University of Illinois. He is currently Professor of Philosophy at Syracuse University. A past president of the American Philosophical Association, Central Division, he was the founding editor of the journal Faith and Philosophy and the first president of the Society of Christian Philosophers. His books include Epistemic Justification: Essays in the Theory of Knowledge (also from Cornell), Philosophy of Language, and the edited volume Religious Belief and Philosophical Thought; in addition, he is coeditor of The Problems of Philosophy and Readings in Twentieth-Century Philosophy.
“William Alston is one of the foremost contributors to the analytical philosophy of religion, and he is the one whose teaching and writing provided the most formative initial impulses for the development of this field in America. He is also a distinguished contributor to the philosophy of language and the philosophy of mind. This is reflected in the mastery and subtlety that he brings to the topics in which the philosophy of religion intersects with those fields. The selection of papers in this collection spotlights these strengths. This collection will be a major and valuable addition to the literature of contemporary philosophy of religion.”
