About-

These poems speak to the contemporary struggle to hold onto faith in a turbulent world. Within the collection is a thread of narrative, semi-autobiographical poems that document the author’s journey from her initial Christian conversion through the trauma of domestic violence and into her healing and reclamation of faith. This is not a grim saga, however—it is intimate, emotional, and seeks out elements of beauty, hope, and generosity of spirit. With subjects ranging from butter sculptures to grape harvesting to internet hoaxes, these poems are sometimes whimsical, often funny, always thoughtful, presenting God as a loving, dynamic Savior who ushers his children into unexpected joy.

Endorsements & Reviews-

“Linda McDonald’s poems speak in tongues. They travel through time. They touch the reader like a goldfish’s lips against the bowl. How Much the Body is a prayer, a confession, and an anthem of hard-won self acceptance. Read them once for meaning and again for the music of the words. Listen carefully and you will hear the beating of tiny hearts.”

—Michael Gerhard Martin, author of Easiest If I Had a Gun

“Grounded in the things of this world, McDonald invites us into miracles. The poems in How Much the Body are personal and universal, earthy and spiritual. This poet means business when it comes to a God who promised to show up at the intersection of things unseen and everyday life: the transcendent God made startlingly or quietly immanent in babies, bills, doorknobs, healing waters, and road sign warnings. Read these poems as prayer, praise, confession, or invitation; just do yourself a favor and read these poems.”

—Jane Herring, reverend
