About-

This “little book with a big message” will completely transform your understanding of what Jesus meant when he answered the request, “Lord, teach us to pray.” He answered by reciting what we now have come to know as the Lord’s Prayer, in the common language of his day, Aramaic. Within these short pages, you will journey back to hear the original words for yourself and, in doing so, will receive the true essence of Jesus’ message regarding how we should pray. You will receive the expanded meanings and reach new depths in understanding.

But, rest assured, this is only the beginning! For just as the early disciples discovered, reciting the prayer in Aramaic ignites a spark—a spark that awakens a remembrance of our innate divinity as children of the living God. And as this remembrance begins to resound in the silent chambers of the heart, the prayer begins to inform every aspect of daily life. Nothing is the same. We have been set afire by love everlasting and left undone, and can only release our own, involuntary, ecstatic cry. This is what it means to pray!

Endorsements & Reviews-

“Even though I participated in Reverend Stephanie Rutt’s weekend on the Our Father in Aramaic several years ago, my recollection of it is still vibrant in my heart. The atmosphere in which Stephanie presented the Our Father was most powerful and prayerful. We sat in a circle, repeated the exact words that Jesus prayed to the Father, danced to the repetition of those holy words and absorbed the spirit of ‘Abwoon’ like a sponge placed in water.”

—Margaret Camire, Sisters of the Presentation of Mary

“After studying Rev. Stephanie’s Living the Prayer of Jesus, I cannot simply pray the Lord's Prayer anymore. . . . When common words fail us, entering into the Lord’s Prayer in his native tongue provides a healing balm that reaches down into our raw humanity and lifts us beyond the now.”

—Debora Ellen Brown, International Council of Community Churches

“Rev. Dr. Rutt’s Living the Prayer of Jesus is a heartfelt little book that takes the Aramaic-to-English translations of Neil Douglas-Klotz and Rocco A. Errico a step further, into the experiential. Rutt’s thoughtful insight into this iconic prayer of Jesus broadens our understanding, provides a rationale for our own deeply personal perspective, and maintains an abiding reverence for this most Christian of prayers. I will likely never pray the Lord’s Prayer quite the same way.”

—John Silva, former chairperson, Tree of Life Interfaith Temple
