About-

James Leo Garrett Jr. has been called “the last of the gentlemen theologians” and “the dean of Southern Baptist theologians.” In The Collected Writings of James Leo Garrett Jr., 1950–2015, the reader will find a truly dazzling collection of works that clearly evince the meticulous scholarship, the even-handed treatment, the biblical fidelity, the wide historical breadth, and the honest sincerity that have made the work and person of James Leo Garrett Jr. so esteemed and revered among so many. Volume 3 contains his works on ecclesiology and provides much-needed light in a day of great confusion on many issues related to the nature, purpose, and mission of the church. Spanning sixty-five years and touching on topics from Baptist history, theology, ecclesiology, church history and biography, religious liberty, Roman Catholicism, and the Christian life, The Collected Writings of James Leo Garrett Jr., 1950–2015 will inform and inspire readers regardless of their religious or denominational affiliations.

Endorsements & Reviews-

“When I first began studying Baptist ecclesiology a generation ago, there were few voices that addressed that issue, and none with the historical, biblical, and theological depth of James Leo Garrett Jr. Sadly, for many of those years he was something of a voice calling in the wilderness, but in the last few years many of the themes he articulated have received renewed attention. For that reason, this collection of Garrett’s writings on ecclesiology, many of them in otherwise hard-to-find sources, is indeed more than welcome. It is a treasure chest filled with gems of ecclesiological wisdom, and a great gift to pastors, church leaders, and all who want to see churches developed according to biblical teaching as Baptists have historically understood it.”

—John S. Hammett, Senior Professor of Systematic Theology, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

“The third volume of The Collected Writings of James Leo Garrett Jr. is one I am delighted to see and for which I am grateful beyond words. The arrival in one place of these consequential essays on ecclesiology could not have come at a better time in the history of Evangelicalism. Further, Garrett’s irenic prose is something that I am always eager to have students read and examine. Many thanks to James Leo Garrett Jr. and to Wyman Richardson for their diligent work in making these available to us all.”

—Jason G. Duesing, Provost and Associate Professor of Historical Theology, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary & Spurgeon College
